Going out in Reykjavik is fun, a lot of fun. You might meet interesting looking people and I always like it when people bring their cameras along, the cameras that mean something to you. He talked about how much he loved shooting in colour, because with colour you can always convert it to black and white. Bruce Gilden in a recent interview kind of just stated the opposite, that by shooting in colour as opposed to black and white you start seeing in colour. I’m not entirely certain if I’ve made up my own mind on this. Sometimes you start out with an idea and you very quickly know what it is that best suites that idea, film/digital, black and white/colour. Unless you’ve got achromatopsia, you’re going to see what’s in your viewfinder in colour and I find it pretty hard to guess how things will turn out in B&W.

The flaming tar barrel run of Ottery St. Mary starts out with the kids running up and down the streets with appropriately sized barrels. There were apparently very strict rules about who could participate. If I remember correctly it started at second generation inhabitants of Ottery St. Mary. As the day progressed, the barrels would get bigger and bigger until it got really dark and really strong burly men would be running through a fairly drunken crowd with barrels big enough to store large quantities of whiskey in them.

Close to Harpa there is a lighthouse that can easily be accessed. On the other side of the harbour there is another identical lighthouse that can only be accessed via a construction site and a precarious walk along a very narrow wall that creates a barrier against the crashing waves. A friend of mine, Joi Ben, showed me how to get to the lighthouse and at times I felt that the wind was about to sweep me over the side into the ocean. It was a great feeling.
